The SMRC Governing Board convened for an annual retreat, which started with a hike and guided meditation at beautiful Point Dume in Malibu, followed by a team-building and brainstorming session led by facilitator Mr. Robert Howard III at SMMUSD's Malibu Pathway Office (formerly known as Juan Cabrillo Elementary School). Co-chairs, Dr. Dione Carter and Dr. Devon Smith, Co-directors Ashley Mejia and Anthony Fuller, SMC and AEC Faculty Leads Liz Koenig and Dr. Patricia Hernandez, and administrative assistants Lorena Martin (AEC) and Saman Mehrazar (SMC), strategized for the coming year and outlined roles and expectations in a dynamic, collaborative and creative environment. Our facilitator, Mr. Howard is an educational consultant for the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, specializing in restorative justice, culture & climate, and conflict resolution and generously shared his time and great insight, and cultivated open and dynamic discussion.
